WAHMs – Step Out Of Comfort Zone
Posted by Deb BixlerWhat Is The Comfort Zone?
Your comfort zone is your familiar pattern of behavior. Basically, it is the thermostat for what you are comfortable doing. Like the thermostat in your house, it is telling you when you are feeling uncomfortable. The comfort zone is as much a mental as a physical feeling. Basically, it is your belief zone, the patterns and behaviors that you have repeated so many times and that are familiar. When something is new (we all hate change), consciously or subconsciously we decide to step back to the familiar or the comfort zone. It is your inner thermostat that keeps you in a comfortable range.
Work At Home=Expand Your Comfort Zone
The comfort zone can be an excuse that is easy to fall back on. I have heard hundreds of times: “That is outside my comfort zone!” That does not have to be the case, if you choose to expand your comfort zone. One small step out into something new makes your comfort zone bigger. You can choose to consciously override your subconscious desire to stay in the comfort zone. Doing that often enough will result in a new and bigger comfort zone.
WAHM Tip For Business Success
The feeling of discomfort can easily be changed to excitement. The feelings nervous and excited both require the same physical brain functions. When that feeling of nervousness that you are outside your comfort zone comes up, consciously switch to being excited about trying something new. Your comfort zone will get bigger and eventually cease to exist.
Stop using “It is not in my comfort zone!” as an excuse!

I believe that is one of my biggest struggles in life – stepping out of my comfort zone. I’ve never been good dealing with change, though “change is the only constant thing in life.” My home-based business has definitely forced me out of my comfort zone many times and helped me grow mentally and emotionally. I think trainings about getting out of your comfort zone, are always helpful.
Thanks Deb!
I always thought that I was at a disadvantage being a SAHM but now I look at it as an asset. I can take the little one with me out and about to discover the world out there during the day while some moms have to be at work.
I like the part about turning your nervousness into excitement. I often feel nervous about my presentations and interactions with people and if I just change my perspective to turn that into excitement, it slowly diminishes my fears.
