Home Party Consultants “Fill Your Calendar!”

Home Party Consultants Want More

Bookings, Bookings, Bookings!

Every home party plan sales consultant I ever met wants more bookings.  In my opinion, one reason that this is such an issue for most sales consultants is the actual term, bookings.

What exactly is a booking, anyway?

  • An invitation to someone’s home.
  • A scheduled show.
  • A home party.
  • A fun gathering.
  • A good time.
  • A get-together

Don’t they sound nice? Booking is a technical term.  It is not friendly, nor is it encouraging to the guest, the consultant or the future host.  It actually is sort of an insult that makes it more difficult to schedule shows.

The word BOOKINGS is a turn off!

The first thing that will help you schedule more shows is to start using friendlier terminology.

Does the dentist say to you: “I am going to extract your molar”?

No, he/she says: “I am sorry to say this, but I am going to have to pull your back tooth.”

I am sure you won’t be any happier about the situation, yet you will feel better about your relationship with the dentist.

Sales is all about relationships.  Eliminate the words BOOKINGS from your vocabulary! To schedule more shows, stop saying things like this:

  • When you BOOK a show, you get this…
  • The host gets a XZY when she BOOKS 2 shows.
  • If you have three BOOKINGS you get a ……

Start using the phrases like this:

  • When you invite me to your home, we will….
  • When you schedule 2 shows at your show, my gift to you is…
  • Whose house should we get together at next month?

At first this will be difficult and with time it will become second nature. I bet you will see a difference in the number of shows you schedule too.

I agree, words like; Party, Shows & Bookings are all scary words for a hostess. I have started to use the words “get together” ‘meet up” or “gathering” and hostesses seem to be more receptive to having one. It doesn’t mean they have to clean the house, pay for a sitter for the kids or set out fancy china and gourmet appetizers and dips. They just unwind with friends and enjoy a fun experience. I’ve also tried meet ups at local restaurants, work great for smaller gatherings of 4-6 ladies. How it works is, they invite their girlfriends to meet at a restaurant or local bar, you show up with the products, pass out catalogs and do a mini presentation then take the orders. Everyone pays for their own drinks or appetizers and its a win win!

Gail, that is one of the first things I learned, I am new to the business, but I totally agree, it sounds to much like work to say booking, or something you have to do. I always try to catch myself and correct it, as it is very simple to say. I am struggling yet as getting hostess’s but I have found much help and resources as websites like this, thank you for the info!

I have been in direct sales for quite some time and I know from experience that people think the word “booking” is like the plague and won’t come near it. I like the concept of phrasing things a little differently and have even been trying to eliminate “show” for “party.” “Show” sounds like drudgery, I have to clean my house and hope my invited guests show up, etc. Whereas, “Party” sounds like FUN, I’m going to have a night with my girlfriends!
