Direct Sales Business Tree
Posted by Deb BixlerYour Direct Sales Business Is A Tree!
You should think about your direct sales business as a tree. When you take a walk around your neighborhood look at the big trees. Consider every branch a branch of your business. It may start with one show, then branch out into more and more shows and customers.
Consider each big tree you look at and realize that for every branch above ground there is a root below ground to keep the tree stable.
The law of gravity demands it! What goes up MUST go down! Can you visualize the massive root system under a tree of this size?
WOW! Think about it! Like this tree (picture taken near the Pennsylvania monument in Gettysburg, PA) all trees including your business tree have a root system that is as deep and wide under ground as it is above!
Direct Sales Business Leads
You may be thinking “how does this apply to my business?”
Each root in your business tree is a lead generation system which grows above ground into a stream of income. A direct sales business tree should have many lead generation systems as a solid foundation (root system) so it can grow tall and strong (branches) to create income.
This is another post about your direct sales business tree which is a bit more graphic in showing the business’ root system.
There are many ways to generate business including:
- Friends
- Family
- Schools
- Work
- Neighbors
- Organizations
- Churches/Synagogues
- Home Party
- Strangers
Balanced Business & Lead Generation
A balanced business generates income from all of the above sources of business and then has a root and a branch for each one. A solid business tree will stand the test of time.
If your business tree does not have a root for each source of leads, then your tree will eventually fall over. When a direct sales business consultant runs a balanced business, they have lead generation techniques that bring a continuous stream of leads in from a wide variety of sources.
If you ONLY depend on family and friends for business you will only have 2 roots on your tree and then only 2 income branches/streams.
Sooner or later the tree will fall over! Your business will fail!
Generating Leads – Finding Business With Strangers
The tap root for your tree is generating leads with strangers. This turns into your business tree trunk above ground.
All the other people/leads/streams of income including those you meet at your home parties are “acquaintances.” When you incorporate lead generation systems into your business that are continually finding new business with strangers, you will never have to worry about where to find business again.

If you do not know why January (and every month) is the best month of the year to host a home party then there is no way you will be able to date a solid show schedule in January.
To truly reach for the stars in this industry, you have to work your bookings to the max and earn as many sales and new bookings as possible, while using the down time to implement new marketing strategies. Using the dreaded down time as an opportunity to find new ways to get recruits and bookings will pump up your business and help you reach your dreams.
Many areas have smaller Chamber organizations. If you live near a large city a little investigation will turn up the main Chambers but also smaller ones such as the Latino Chamber Of Commerce or the Spanish American Chamber or the African American Chamber of Commerce.
Don’t be shy when marketing your business at networking events. When you attend Chamber of Commerce events, one of the principal reasons you are there is to promote your direct sales business. Conversations are usually easy to initiate as most people are there to meet new contacts and referrals.
