The Scavenger Hunt Home Party Game

by Deb Bixler

This home party plan game serves the purpose of getting higher show attendance.  Ask your host to go on a scavenger hunt for the following types of guests.  You can include a check list flyer and also a prize would be appropriate.

Someone who….

  • has two or more children
  • loves ice cream
  • goes to work everyday
  • has a birthday in July
  • is single
  • lives in your neighborhood
  • owns a XYZ product of your choice
  • hates to cook
  • has been to London or Washington D.C.
  • has 2 cats
  • hosted a Cooking Show last summer
  • is a Grand Mother
  • loves pizza
  • is a teacher
  • is going to college
  • is European
  • would be a great consultant
  • has only one dog
  • lives more than 20 miles away

The list can really go on for ever.  I recommend a list of 30-40 types of people.  The purpose is really to get the host to start thinking outside the box.  A wide variety of people usually means better show attendance because there is less chance that one event will over shadow the party.  Also, a wide variety of guests pretty much guarantees that you will have at least one big spender.

Games To Play At Home Party Plan Shows

The game of bingo for your home show party is a great way for the audience to get involved and also to increase your show average. When playing games at your shows, be sure that the game has a purpose for you…. more sales or create desire for shows or the opportunity to start a business… and also a purpose for the guest… fun!

This game gets people to start a list of the products that they would like to have someday. Any time you can start your customers on an action, it will most likely increase sales.  This is because one action creates momentum and leads to another action. It is similar to when you get the host, during host coaching, to start a list of who to invite — then you will not have as many cancellations because the action of creating a list of guests will lead to a call to invite them, and that will lead to the invitations going out. The act of creating a list of people to invite will generate action or start the ball rolling. The act of creating a list of what he or she wants to get may create momentum to start a list of who to invite. So at your show when you get your customers to start a list of what they want, you are putting the ball in motion for them to make purchases, become hosts, or even sign up to be a rep. The bingo game is designed to get the guests writing their wish list down.

A Game To Play At Direct Selling Parties – Bingo

Party Games The game of bingo is terrific to play at your shows. Here is how it works. On the back of the receipt, on a piece of paper, or whatever you choose to use, tell your guests to make a bingo card or two. They need to make a grid that is 5 X 5 spaces. You can have them make one or you can provide it.  Here is a blank bingo grid if you want to really get serious about this. Bingo Board Then explain how the game works. As the show goes on, they are to write down products they would like to get sometime or wish that they had. Ask them to write the product and the page number in one of the boxes for each product that they like throughout the show. The more on their bingo cards, the better chance they have of winning. Assure the guests that putting the products on the bingo card does not mean they have to buy it. Actually, the more bingo cards that they fill, the better the chance that they will win when we play bingo at the end of the show. So as you demonstrate and talk about products, guests write the wish list on their bingo card. The more products they have on their grid, the better chance that they will win. Remind them periodically so that they remember to play. At the end of the show, you will do a product wrap-up during the close. You can say, ”Ok we are just about done and so now turn your bingo cards over. Let’s play bingo for this product.” You do your wrap-up, doing a quick summary of each product, and they x it off on their bingo card as you do so. ‘This is the XX, no kitchen is complete without it, all hosts I ever did a show for had enough products to get the YYY for free, and the special ZZZ is perfect in every living room.’ You just keep talking about the products during the wrap-up and who ever gets bingo first wins your item. Finish the wrap-up, and take your orders. You can even check the back of the bingo cards as you tally your orders, as a way to cross or up sell. Or use a big wish list as leverage when asking about scheduling a show.

Games At Home Parties Must Create Value

The value in this direct sales game is that it creates desire for shows by creating a visual list for the guest as the show goes on. It gives them a way to remember what they were considering, informs you of their level of interest, and creates desire for hosting shows as well as the opportunity.  And it is fast-paced and fun. The value to the guest is that it is fast paced; keeping up with the show and not taking any extra time. If you cannot create a value for the guest with your show games, then you should not play games. Guests hate to be bored, so be sure that any game you play creates value for you – the sales consultant, for them – the party attendee, as well as for the host.

Party Plan Games

by Deb Bixler

Of all of the requests that I get, the ones I hear most often are “how to find bookings” and “what kinds of home party games should I play” at my show. The question about scheduling shows is addressed frequently in the category of building business. Party Games are not really my thing. I always make sure that the game has value to all at the show. The category of party games includes several adaptations of games that I have heard sales professionals using. I always change them because I believe that if valuable show time is being used for game, then they really must serve two purposes. One purpose is fun for the guests and the other should be for the good of your business. The following game is one I am sure most of you have heard of before called “Ask Me About Making Money With YOUR Company”. I have added a new twist to it.

Home Parties – A Sharing Game

If you are not comfortable sharing your opportunity then this is a terrific game for you. This is how it works. You have a gift to give away. Either by issuing tickets or by using the gift and allowing the guests to pass it back and forth as they ask questions. Using a clock or timer, pick time frame. Not too long, maybe 2 minutes maximum. During this time ask the guests to do one of two things. They can ask you about your company and how you make money doing what you do, or they can tell you what they would do if they had and extra $125 per week coming into the household. If you are using the ticket approach, then everyone who asks a question gets a ticket for every question or income statement they make and at the end you do a drawing. If you are passing the item around the guests just pass it to who ever is sharing and when the timer rings or the time is up, that person keeps the gift.

Successful Home Based Business Strategies

Use what you learned during the game. A strategy is to create your games and shows in such a way that it gives you the information you are looking for.

The game will stimulate interest in your opportunity and give you information to use as your guests check out.

You can then say to those who asked about the vacations, “Where did you go on vacation last year?” “Would you be interested in more information about traveling for free with XYZ company?”

If someone said, “I would use the extra $125 to put the kids into private school? You may ask the guest during check out: “What school does your child go to now?” Why do you want them to switch schools?”

And so on, you can ease into your opportunity with benefits specific to their needs. Games at shows must be fun for the guests so be sure to keep them fast paced and short in duration. The value of the game to the guest is some fun, and to you it should have a business purpose as well.

Home Party Games

The Banana Game

Of all of the requests I get, I am most often asked for party games. I have never been a game person at my shows. It just isn’t me. The thing about games is that some people love ‘em and some people, like myself, don’t. So if you are a home party sales rep who loves games, make sure that your game serves two purposes. I modified The Banana Game to serve two purposes.

Home Party Game Value

• Fun For The Guest
• Generates Value To The Sales or Interest In Your Services
direct selling games

Order Your Home Party Game E-Book Only $7.00

I have changed this game a bit from the original version to give it more value. The most important aspect of this game is that it gives the host a good reason to call her guests a couple of days before the show. About three days out call the host and say that if she gets the ice cream and sprinkles you will bring the fudge topping and nuts. Ask her to call all the guests and ask each one to bring a banana. Tell her that you will play a game, then make banana splits. The host should not tell the guests about the game. Just use it as a good reason to give guests a call, remind them of the show, and “Don’t miss the banana splits!”. This gives the host a good guest count and also introduces a sense of fun and excitement about the show. You can use the game to generate interest in being a sales rep. Each guest will keep track of her/his points on the edge of the order form. Let the host read the poem and you can say the lines that are in parenthesis after each paragraph to help to create desire for your services. This will all make sense when you read the poem below.

Your host tonight is the judge,
And I brought the fudge,
We have toppings too,
To make a delicious dessert for you.

(Can you believe I get paid to do this!)

Now look at your bananas
And give yourself a 4
For having a banana with
10 spots or more.

Now if your banana is a vibrant green

(A new consultant makes about $100 vibrant green cash per show)

Give yourself a count of 16
And if yours is the longest one
Give yourself 21.

But let’s be kind
To the one most short
And give her 10 points
For being a sport

(Our host is so good at this poem-she could take my job!)

A yellow banana’s
the best to eat
It will give you 10 points
Which is a treat.

Now if yours is bruised,
Softened or brown,
Deduct 2 points,
What a letdown.

(I still can’t believe that I get paid to do this!)

The one who has the longest stem
Gives you easily another 10
But if your stem is tattered or broken
Take 2 points as a little token.

If it is a high score
You’re looking for
Then schedule a show
And give yourself 20 points more.

(I only have a couple dates left next month)

Now count your points
And add up the score
The one with the most
Is who we’re looking for.

Give the winner her/his prize and say: (Have you ever thought about doing what I do, I am sure you can come up with a better game than this!)

Fun Has Value

Don’t let the game drag on too long because the people like me who are not into games will probably get antsy with the process. If you make it funny and act it out in a silly manner you can keep it fun. Even when interspersing your opportunity lines overact it to the point of being funny and it will go funny.

There you have it. Another game for all of you home party game people. Make sure that your show games have value to your mission and to your guests’ mission. Value the time that they have invested in being there and keep it fun. Value your time and be sure to create desire for your product, opportunity, or hosting opportunity.

Home Party Games Must Be Fun

FUN is the single most important thing for the success of your home party shows. If a party game in your direct selling show creates FUN then by all means play the games. My guests and hosts certainly had fun at the shows. One easy way to determine the FUN level of your shows is to see how many shows you schedule at your shows. When people have FUN you will have a full calendar. Making sure that you are organized enough to relax at he show is essential to you having FUN. When you have FUN then your guests will have FUN and they will invite you to their house. Games can be the answer to FUN, or they can be considered a drudgery by the guests. Do not assume that a game is always the answer to FUN. If you are playing show games, and having a hard time scheduling shows, then maybe you have to reconsider the effectiveness of the game, or whether your hosts and guests are enjoying the games.

Play Direct Selling Party Games

If you plan to play games at your direct selling party show, make sure that they are fun and also that they serve a purpose such as providing a system to increase home party sales, so that it is worth your time. Your show time is valuable. You only have so much time to accomplish your mission:

At Your Home Party Your mission is:

Sell product
Schedule shows
Share the opportunity
Provide value to the participants (FUN)

I say that FUN is the key to show success because FUN is a commodity that people put value on. When you establish value at your shows then your business will roll along forever. Here is a game that allows you to share the opportunity and also create desire for future shows and hopefully have some FUN too. Create your entire show theme around this game and you will increase your home party plan sales. Tell the host to tell the guests that we are taking a world tour at the show.

Around The World Direct Sales Party Game

A few days or a week before the show when you do your last call to the host ask her to call each guest to remind them of the show and also to bring a picture from her favorite trip or vacation. Encourage them to bring pictures from all over the world. Tell her that you have some small prizes to give out based on her friends’ pictures and vacations. This compels our host to actually make the last minute reminders and will increase your show attendance.

Creating a Buzz With Sales Game

Have the guests put their pictures on the table or other location so that everyone can look at them. This is fun in itself and will get the people mingling and talking as the pictures begin to arrive. During the show ask questions about the pictures. Did anyone bring a picture from Italy? Allow that guest to share briefly about the trip to Italy. Mixed in thoughout your show, not all at once, continue to ask questions about the world tour through pictures. Guest can tally their own points to earn your prizes.

  • Did you get the trip for FREE?
  • Was the picture taken in the last 6 months?
  • Are there mountains in the picture?
  • Is there a lake in the picture?
  • Is there an ocean in the picture?
  • Was the picture taken on an island?
  • Did you travel by airplane?
  • Is there a landmark in the picture?
  • Is this a business trip?
  • Did you take your kids?
  • Are there any people in the picture?
  • Is someone waving “hi” in the picture?
  • Is someone in the picture riding a horse, camel, or elephant?
  • Is it in a foreign country?
  • Is anyone kissing or hugging in the picture?
  • Was the picture taken on your honeymoon
  • Did the person taking the picture accidentally get their finger(s) in front of the lens?

These are just sample questions. Create some questions of your own that lead into some of the information that you want to sprinkle into your shows. The travel game is a terrific game to talk about the opportunity to create income with your company. Before you think about which questions you are going to ask, decide what opportunity information you want to share, then as you ask the questions and receive the audience participation, sprinkle your opportunity information throughout the game. I do not recommend playing the game all at once. This will be throughout your whole show.

Here are some sprinkles that you may make following certain questions:

  • Is there a landmark in the picture?

When I was in France with XYZ Company, they took all of us to the Eiffel Tower

  • Did you take your kids?

Our company provides two trip choices, one for consultants with kids and another for those who prefer to travel without kids.

  • Did you get the trip for FREE?

Some people get a paid vacation, I get a paid-for vacation each year with XYZ Company.

  • Was the picture taken on your honey moon?

How would you like to take your husband on another honeymoon paid for with all your own money? The income you create with one show a week with XYZ Company will easily buy a luxury vacation.

Around the World Game Creates Value At Home Show

Guests may arrive at 6:00 and by 8:00 they are on the way home after experiencing the thrill of a tour of the around the world game and sharing everyone else’s vacation. It is FUN, gives you a vehicle to share your opportunity and gives the guests at the show value for their time.

Always be sure that your games give your show value. One thing that people will not do is allow you to bore them. If you are having a hard time scheduling shows, then look at the value you are providing to your guests and hosts. Party games in direct sales are good when they are FUN, serve a purpose for your mission and provide value to all in attendance.

Party Games To Create Desire

by Deb Bixler

More Home Party Games

People keep asking for games to play at their shows. I was never a game person, so it is not something I have an entire repertoire on. I did recently hear of a game called The Purse Game. I modified it a bit so that you can use it to create desire for your business opportunity and for the opportunity to host a show. You actually will want to play The Purse Game throughout your entire show and use it as a technique to get people involved and get your various messages out to your audience. Start out by explaining that throughout the show you will be looking for things in their purses. Not literally, just by asking them who has what in their purse. As you call out an item you will “sprinkle” information that will create desire for future shows or the opportunity to create income. When you sprinkle enough information you will always create a desire for more of what you have to offer. This is a fun and different way to do it (not that I have ever played this game). I am just assuming if your are a party game type sales consultant then this would be fun for you and your guests. Of course, you will want to give a couple of prizes out during the show for various achievements. Here is a list of the things you are looking for in their purses and the “sprinkle” you will make with it.

CELL PHONE: Did you know that when you have a home business, you can deduct your cell phone bill from your income taxes?
LOOSE CHANGE: Round your orders up to the next dollar, the extra change goes to your local food bank.
A CREDIT CARD: When I first started my business I did so to pay off my credit card, now I am paying the mortgage just by doing one show a week!
A STORE COUPON: How many of you drive across town to get double coupons? When you host a show you will get “double” your value off of your order! (or triple or FREE!)
A BUSINESS CARD: This may not be for you and it may be just the thing for a friend, refer a friend and receive a FREE gift.
A MEMBERSHIP CARD to a club or gym: Our past hosts are an exclusive club, they get XZY for a year…….
A STAMP: When you host a show with me, I make it really simple for you, by actually mailing the invitations for you, (or giving them to you preprinted) or something to that effect.
A CALENDAR: Today’s host will receive a xyz at your show and you will earn the host special at all the shows we schedule from yours.
CAR KEYS: With your commission check, you could make a car payment. Or, one of the perks of our company is you get a FREE Mercedes when you reach the XYZ level.
FAMILY PICTURE: When you are your own boss you will be able to work around your family’s schedule.
PAY STUB: For only XYZ investment, you will begin to generate an additional stream of income and you could earn that back in your 1st show.
SUNGLASSES: You can earn fabulous vacations. The more shows you hold the more FREE trips you take!
RUBBER BAND: The flexibility of a direct sales business has been a gift in my life.
PAPER CLIP: Just like an underwire bra, the beauty of network marketing is that you always have support.

There you have it…. The Purse Game. Now don’t run through all of those “Sprinkles” at once. The purpose of “Sprinkles” is to sprinkle them throughout the show so that your audience does not feel like they are getting lectured. It should take the entire show to play the whole game. You can think of some more items and sprinkles if you want or change these to be more appropriate for your business.

When you play this game at every show you are sure to generate desire for having a show and also for the business opportunity. This is a game with a purpose!

Try These Home Party Games

by Deb Bixler

Playing short, fun games is a terrific way to get the guests interacting at your home party. The key words are ’short’ and ‘fun’. There is nothing worse than a long boring game to cut into your sales at your show. I have had several requests lately from some of my coaching clients for new game ideas. Here are two that are different and I am sure not many home party consultants have used them before.

Burst Your Bubble Party Game

This is a get-em laughing icebreaker. Explain that the first to blow a balloon, sit on it and pop it gets a prize. Then just throw a handful of balloons into the crowd. (I assume it is a crowd…right?) It’s fun and is a terrific way to get a show started with a bang!

Spring Flowers Direct Selling Game

Directions:
Have each guest spell SPRING down the left side of a piece of paper. Then in a predetermined time after you say GO, they will write as many flower names next to each letter as they can think of. The flowers begin with that letter. Give a point for each flower not duplicated by another player! Here are some examples!

S – Sunflower, Strawflower, Sweet Pea, Snowball
P – Petunia, Pansy, Peony, Poppy
R – Rose, Rhododendron, Ruby Lily, Rosemary
I – Iris, Impatiens, Iron Weed, Indian Pink
N – Narcissus, Nasturtium, Night shook
G – Geranium, Gladiolus, Gardenia, Goldenrod

It is not hard to think of flowers that match the letters, but it is hard to think of some unusual ones that no one else thought of!
