We got a question during the break, Dana, by email. It’s from Shar and it says, “Hello, Deb, I absolutely love your show.”

Thank you, Shar, very much. Shar has been a consultant for a company for about a year and a half, and her mother joined her team, because she liked how much fun Shar was having—and that’s one of the best ways to bring people on your team is to have fun—and now that she is a consultant she is having trouble stepping out of her comfort zone. And so Shar’s question is what can I do or say to get her to understand or remember that she decided to start her own business for her own reasons and she did not do it to help me and my down line? So Shar wants some advice on that, instead of Shar having to help her all the time.

DANA WILDE: I totally understand, and I think it’s an excellent, excellent question, Shar. Thank you for asking. And again, similar questions like this often end, so I’m going to go off on a little tangent here and then we will come back specifically to this particular situation.

I think what happens a lot of times with people—and I found this in leading my own team—is that we get really good at our lives and being positive and training our own brains, and then it becomes easy. After we do that for a while, we want to share that with everybody and we want everybody to change and we start to notice the different ways that people can change. Sometimes what we don’t realize is that really it still goes back to the story we are telling and the message we are telling and if we can change our own minds, and so I’m going to tell you a couple of little personal stories just to illustrate the point.

The MindAwareThe first one is I had a friend in my life who was really, really negative, and it would make me crazy. I would talk to her all the time and she was always so negative. I thought that I was going to end the friendship just because, just because I really couldn’t deal with it anymore. And then I started to think, well, what if I started to see, just noticing when she’s positive and start seeing her in a different way and start just kind of seeing in my own mind that things are getting better and that she is starting to look on the bright side? And what if I started just telling a different story about her? How that would affect things? Would I open a window or would I treat her differently so that she would start to act differently?

And I will tell you, what I noticed about myself in this situation was that I caught myself, when I would talk with her, I would ask her questions that were the questions I knew she was most upset about, you know, her daughter, her job or these things. I would always ask her these questions, so of course every time she talked to me she was always complaining or talking about these things, but it was really because of me. I was bringing it out in her because this is how I was seeing her. And so it started to happen when I started seeing her differently and started just really easing myself into those new pictures, you know, thinking new thoughts, creating new mantras around this new person, she started showing up differently because I started treating her differently too. I started having different expectations for her, and I started saying things to her like, “Wow, it’s so great that you think so positively.”

So, that’s story #1.

Direct Sales Team Training MindAware

Story #2 that I’m going to tell you is that I have the same experience with my direct sales team. This was before I developed the MindAware system.  Now this is really embarrassing to admit, so everybody is going to love this story. I was a new leader, I had been a leader for about a year and a half and I had grown—everybody knows that story—but I had noticed that my first level was not performing the way I wanted them to, and some of the first levels of other team members were doing really great. I was saying to myself over and over again, “What is wrong with these people that I sponsored? What is wrong with me and what is wrong with them? Why are they not doing work? Look at all this other leaders; they have all these go-getters. How come that my fist level is such a bunch of duds, you know.

Now who should know better than me to say that over and over again to myself? I mean, I’m not kidding when I say I might have said that to myself for about a year. And then, I finally heard myself – I got conscious and I got awake and I got my mind aware and then I said, “Dana, look at the mantra that you are telling about your first level. Are you crazy? You need to change this.” So I did, I totally changed my mantra and what I was saying about my first level I started saying, “I attract go-getters,” and this type of thing. You know what? I’m not kidding, the whole face of my first level turned around within; I mean, it was less than a month, people who had done nothing started doing stuff. I started sponsoring people that were amazing out of the gate. I mean everything turned around.

Train Your Brain

advertise on home party plan radioAnd so having told those two stories, that is the piece that I would give to you. Because I know that this is going to seem really weird and challenging, but the best thing you can do for your mom is to really train your own brain and try to see her and notice her as much as you can doing different things and saying different things about her to yourself and noticing different things and really easing into that new image of her. Because if you can see her in that new image and if you can see her in that new vision, she will step up to the plate and she will walk into that new vision for you, but somebody has to hold that vision for her and you can do it.

DEB BIXLER: That’s really good, you know. I have a book—we’re almost done here—but I have a book on, I think it’s a Guidepost book or something, but it has these stories in it about women who want to change their husbands’ lives and that kind of thing. And it’s just what you are talking about – when they started changing how they thought about the other person, whether you call it prayer or whether you call it positive thoughts – I mean, what is prayer but positive thoughts and mantras, right?

DANA WILDE: Exactly.

DEB BIXLER: I mean, really. And I had a recent experience. I made a really bad mistake last week, and I immediately turned around and apologized. What I did was – I mean, it works long distance. I just started thinking different thoughts about the woman that I apologized to, but made a mistake – because I was thinking, “What would I do if I was her? I don’t know if I would forgive me.” [Laughter] You know what I’m saying?

DANA WILDE: I do.

DEB BIXLER: We are about ready to wrap it up here; we are in our last minute. But it worked long distance is my point, is that your thoughts are really powerful information.

DANA WILDE: Yeah, Deb, you are absolutely right. And I say just try it and trust what Deb says, because really you almost feel like you’re having miracles happen sometimes.

DEB BIXLER: Right. And this is cashflowshowradio.com and that will take you to Dana Wilde’s article on the cashflowradio.com blog. We are going to be cut out here in a minute, Dana. Do you have anything you would like to say?

DANA WILDE: Yes. Thank you for having me. This is awesome. And if you want to learn more about Train Your Brain, you can go to budurl.com/danawebinar, for a free training.

DEB BIXLER: Could you say that again?
